The story

Carpentry and cabinet making is an art in its own right, requiring special attention to materials, design and photography. In order to sublimate the art of carpenter Damien Dumas, the Blackthorns design studio has created the visual identity of the Lyon cabinetmaker.

The challenge of this project was, first of all, to design a graphic charter halfway between vintage design and modern imagery. Secondly, Damien needed to build an identity on the Web. The agency has been working on its digital communication and his presence on the web.

The outcome

For this complete and exciting project, we first took the care to carry out an audit in order to agree on a communication plan. The branding design then took over in order to create the visual universe of Damien Dumas. Finally, we carried out the web development of his website by implementing a digital strategy and a positioning strategy.

Careful visual identity of a zealous cabinetmaker

In order to give the cabinetmaker's visual identity an authentic and textured look, Blackthorns used a background pattern showing the wood grain while incorporating trendy graphic elements. We can indeed find in his visual identification system the use of "imperfect" geometric shapes (reminiscent of raw wood planks), negative layer inlay modes and typographic/form overlapping effects. The colour chart, meanwhile, is composed of deep blue, beige and white.

We then worked on the design of the business card by mixing woody texture and contrasting rectangular shape, which could echo the epoxy resin creations, so trendy nowadays.

Web design

A "connected" carpenter

Following the realization of the business card, we tackled the creation of his website. Like a carpenter in the assembly phase, the studio was sharpening its digital tools to give life to the cabinetmaker's future web pages. For the realization of the web design, we agreed on something very simple and minimalist because, as everyone knows, a picture is worth a thousand words.

Conclusion: no complex site this time (that changes!), it will be a website made with WordPress ! Very few pages, a "masonry" layout (masonry in English ^^), all in the blue/beige tones of the previously established colour chart. About fifteen projects have been selected for publication. Among them, one very nice bookcase in solid beecha trendy solid oak claustra or a majestic coffee table.

One of the peculiarities of the artist-joiner's creations: they bear the first name of their owner! Original idea that gives a warm side. In order to give a little "hype" touch to the home page, we decided to retouch the cover photos by creating a kind of customized Instagram filter (using the "Gradient Transfer Curve" tool for Photoshop enthusiasts 😉 ).

Because the creative studio in Lyon does its job to the very end and because it knows how to do a lot of things (yes yes it's true!), a shooting services has also been agreed for some of the cabinetmaker's projects. Indeed, you will be able to see below some pictures of the achievements of the carpenter of the "cité des Gones". Other photos will surely follow in a few months time as well as a video capture to testify to the beauty of this profession and its different facets.
